DESCRIPTION:
During
this project I am required to complete two parts. The first half is a styling
project where I am to visit the National Gallery or National Portrait Gallery
and select a painting, which I would like to interpret. I then choose whether
to interpret the painting in the period portrayed or place it in a contemporary
context. The outcome of this will then be presented in a photograph. There is a
£0 budget for this so I will have to be resourceful and inventive in my
creations. The skill in creating this piece will be in the styling of the
costume ready for camera.
The
second half of the project involves me working closely with second year film
students, producing costumes for a film inspired by a painting from the
Courtauld Gallery. The turn around for the project is very tight and will
therefore force me to be creative with time management and work to a tight
budget.
My
reasons for choosing this project are that I think it is a fantastic
opportunity to broaden my skills and knowledge working within film. I have the
opportunity to learn Costume Plot Pro, which I think will be useful to me both
now and in the future. The project as a whole will be a personal challenge for
me to undergo time management and work to a tight budget. I think the brief for
this project underpins a combination of my interests in one and my future
career plans include working on film, therefore it is a great experience for
me.
For
assessment I will produce:
A
sketchbook filled with my research from both Part one and Part two of the
project.
-
Part
One: Styling: research will include paintings/portraits I have explored and
been inspired by, previous remakes that I have looked at, and my final choice
and reasons for this choice, as well as development ideas and a final
photograph.
-
Part
Two: Film: research will include the specific painting that inspired the film I
will work on, any designs required/sourcing, as well as budgeting, development
ideas and on-set photos.
-
A
film file consisting of Continuity, Character Breakdown, Budget Breakdown, and
any other relevant paperwork generated.
-
My
blog will be an important part of the work I hand in, as it will document
everything from my initial thought process to my reflections on what I have
learnt throughout SDP. This will be recorded through the use of labels and will
result in a 750 word evaluation.
I
will produce a Work Plan to follow closely to help me achieve all of the
above.
